ABOUT HOSPICE & PALLIATIVE CARE LINCOLN COUNTY
Hospice & Palliative Care Lincoln County began in 1984 as Hospice of Lincoln County. That year, Cheryl Thornburg, a registered nurse with the Lincoln County Health Department, called a community meeting to determine the feasibility of an area hospice. After three years of raising funds and hiring part-time staff, Hospice of Lincoln County accepted its first patient. By 1998, there were 41 referrals, of which 27 were accepted as patients. Hospice of Lincoln County continued to grow over the years; the organization saw an increase in budget as well as increases in staff and patients. New fundraising project were introduced, including the "Light up a Life" campaign which sold commemorative angels as a way to honor and memorialize loved ones. This program still continues today.
In April of 1990, a foundation grant deeded the current building on North Cedar Street to Hospice of Lincoln County. This new facility, with over 2,700 sqare feet, allowed ample space for the continually expanding staff and volunteers.
In 1997, Hospice of Lincoln County merged with Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, expanding the overall organization's service area to nine counties. Working from a home base in Lincolnton, Hospice & Palliative Care Lincoln County serves patients primarily in Lincoln, Catawba, Gaston, and Mecklenburg counties. Hospice & Palliative Care Lincoln County still provides the same unparalleled services and excellent quality of care. Only the name has changed!
Throughout its 24-year history, Hospice & Palliative Care Lincoln County has tried to increase public awareness of hospice and maintain quality care for its patients. In 2007, the Hospice & Palliative Care Lincoln County staff served over 300 patients and their families. These numbers are a clear testament to the achievement of those goals.
OUR SERVICES
Our continuum of care allows us to provide specialized services to adults and children in their homes, in skilled nursing facilities and in assisted living communities. The open access policy allows us to serve people with challenging medical needs, and our continuous care program helps patients in crisis remain at home. We are the most experienced organization of our kind in our area. Let us care for your family.

Our staff at Hospice & Palliative Care Lincoln County bring a wealth of experience to end-of-life care. High standards and caring attitudes allow them to excel in their roles and to comfort many patients and families through this difficult time.
Each patient has a team that is involved with their care. This care team may include any of the following: the patient's physician, a hospice staff physician, a nurse, a nursing assistant, a social worker, a grief counselor, a volunteer and a chaplain.
